Peter De Paepe is specialist in internal medicine and emergency medicine, and is currently head of the emergency department of the Ghent University Hospital (Belgium). He has been appointed medical director of East Flanders by the Belgian Federal Health Authorities and he is a member of the National Council for Emergency Medical Services. He is program director of the residency curriculum in emergency medicine and instructor of the master of medicine in emergency medicine at Ghent University. He obtained his PhD in pharmacology in 2000. He is also a certified clinical pharmacologist and holds a position of professor in clinical pharmacology at the Heymans Institute of Pharmacology at Ghent University. His fields of interest and research focus on clinical toxicology, pharmacology in critically ill patients and resuscitation.
